It has been a crazy week here! My parents arrived last week Friday and left today. It was wonderful to see them and to be able to share my experiences. Since it was such a crazy week I am finally able to post about this past weekend! It was an AMAZING weekend! Starting off the weekend by seeing my parents was perfect! They arrived to St. Lucia Friday afternoon and we kept them busy the whole weekend. Morgan, Sam and I met them at their hotel and spent some time catching up. Then Sam’s principal’s husband used his bus to take some of my host family, Sam, Morgan, my parents and me to Anse La Raye for their fish Friday. When we got there we missed a lot of the fish, but I was able to get some floats for my parents to try and my dad found some fish to enjoy. The bus ride their was a tough one! There were many winding roads and it felt like we were on a roller coaster. Once we were done there we all came back to Gros Islet and went to the street party. My parents were able to experience the excitement at the street party. On Saturday we were up early to take a trip around the island! Our adventure was going to begin at 8:30, but with island time we didn’t leave until around 10:30. It is funny how different the sense of time is here. Sam, Morgan and I went up for breakfast around 8:00 and my host mom was just starting to cook the lunch we were going to bring along. Then around 9:00 we finally ate breakfast. We then went back downstairs to wait. Around 10:00 the bus driver, Danny, made it to the house to pick us up. Morgan, Sam and I were the only ones ready. We all got in the bus and Danny said, “I thought I was late.” I just had to laugh at his comment, because yes he was about two hours late, but yet no one else was ready. Eventually though we got everyone together and began the adventure. We stopped at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries. My host mom attended there to study education. Then we stopped at some different places to take pictures. The bus ride was full of sining traditional St. Lucian songs and a lot of laughter! We passed through Anse La Raye again and continued south to Soufriere. On the ride to Soufriere we were able to get a wonderful view of the Pitons. They were beautiful. For the whole ride though I really only had one thing on my mind. Before I came to St. Lucia there were two things I knew I wanted to do here, one was to go zip lining and the other was to stand under a waterfall. For the whole ride I was eagerly anticipating our stop at a waterfall. We went to Toraille Waterfall and I was able to finally stand under a waterfall! I LOVED IT! The falling water was extremely powerful on my head and stung when it hit me, and even though it was raining outside the water felt refreshing as it rushed over me! Now I can check "stand under a waterfall" off my list! Once we were done at the waterfall we went to Sulfur Springs Park. We went to the museum and watched a short video about how the sulfur springs and the Pitons were formed. After the video we took a short tour and learned a little more about the sulfur springs and volcanoes. Then we were able to take the mud bath! We put the sulfur mud all over our bodies and then bathed in the hot spring. It felt wonderful. It was a cooler day out and the warmth of the hot water was amazing. It was very relaxing. After our time at the sulfur springs we continued our tour. We drove down to Vieux Fort, where the airport is, and then we drove back up on the east side of the island, and traveled through Micoud. Around 6:00 we stopped in Dennery for their fish celebration. Once we were done in Dennery we headed home. It was long drive home and I tried to sleep as much as I could. Once we made it back home we relaxed for a bit and then went to bed. Sunday was a nice relaxing day to recover from our eventful Saturday. Morgan, Sam, my parents and I went to church and then we spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach. It was wonderful! I had a fantastic weekend that I am very thankful for being able to share with my friends and my family!
